    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Critical Care Transport Handbook: An All in One Resource for Critical Care Clinicians

Revolutionary handbook streamlines care with the P.A.M. Approach (Pathophysiology | Assessment | Management)

[January 17, 2025]— The Critical Care Transport Handbook, authored by Charles F. Swearingen, Scott Heller, and Michael R. Griggs is set to redefine the way critical care professionals approach patient management. This comprehensive guide is designed to be the go-to resource for new and aspiring flight medics, critical care transport providers, and emergency clinicians seeking a concise, organized approach.

A New Standard in Critical Care Resources Written with the realities of emergency care in mind, The Critical Care Transport Handbook condenses years of medical expertise into an accessible, easy-to-navigate format. Unlike traditional handbooks that require flipping between multiple references, this handbook stacks essential pathophysiologies, assessment findings, and management protocols for concurrent conditions in one place.

Key Features of The Critical Care Transport Handbook

    • The P.A.M. Approach (Pathophysiology, Assessment, Management): A streamlined framework that ensures clinicians can quickly reference treatment plans without unnecessary delays.

    • Protocol-Style Design: Conditions are organized with corresponding complications and co-occurring treatments in the same section to avoid unnecessary page-flipping.

    • Comprehensive Yet Concise: Covers everything from pediatric emergencies to complex pharmacology, making it invaluable for flight medics, critical care pharmacists, and emergency residents.

    Meet the Authors

    • Charles F. Swearingen: A decorated flight paramedic and national volleyball athlete, Charles is the founder of MeduPros and a leader in critical care training programs worldwide. He has published peer-reviewed research in air medical transport and has served as a critical care instructor for North American Rescue. Swearingen’s background includes lifesaving aeromedical rescues during Hurricane Katrina and educational collaborations with military special forces.

    • Scott Heller: A multidisciplinary flight paramedic with a bachelor's in Health Education and nearly a decade of EMS and flight experience. Scott’s expertise in advanced practice education brings a real-world, relatable voice to the handbook. “I never expected to write a book,” says Scott Heller. “But Charlie has a way of helping people see their potential and pushing them to live up to it.”

    • Michael R. Griggs, PharmD: A critical care pharmacy specialist with residency training at Harvard’s Massachusetts General Hospital. Michael’s career has centered on treating critically ill patients in some of the country’s most challenging emergency settings. He is known for his bedside teaching and has won two Best Guest Lecturer awards from the Emergency Medicine residency program.

A Resource Built for Clinicians, by Clinicians “We wrote this book because it’s the resource we wish we’d had when we started,” says Scott Heller. “It’s designed to give clinicians the confidence to make decisions in real time when it matters most.”

The handbook’s content is shaped by real-world experience, from responding to medical emergencies in the dead of night to high-pressure transport scenarios that require split-second decisions.

Available Now The Critical Care Transport Handbook is available for purchase on the authors' website. The book is offered in both paperback and hardcover formats to meet the needs of clinicians in the field.
